The shorebased instructor course is for anyone wanting to teach the RYA's shorebased navigation and seamanship courses - Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore and Yachtmaster Ocean.

This two-day course is primarily for those who are new to teaching the RYA's shorebased courses, although experienced instructors are also welcome to attend.

All candidates should hold the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate of competence. Advanced Powerboat Instructors can also apply but will only be qualified to teach the Day Skipper shorebased course. All applicants must be active cruising or offshore skippers and have successfully completed the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course in the last five years.

Candidates' knowledge should be well in excess of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course and are advised to work through the shorebased papers that are sent out prior to the course.
