Only RYA Recognised Training Centres are permitted to display the tick-mark logo, but what does this logo mean for members of the public who wish to undertake a course?
What does RYA recognition mean?
It means that you can expect to be taught by an experienced skipper or instructor aboard a seaworthy, safe, well maintained and suitable craft, on courses within the RYAs proven training schemes.
Qualifications earned on RYA courses are recognised and valued in most parts of the world.
Regular inspections
Each RYA recognised training centre is inspected regularly to ensure that training craft and instructors meet the high standards of the RYA, and where relevant, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). Recognised shorebased centres may also use our logo, although there is no annual inspection regime for them.
The RYA also carries out spot inspections during courses to ensure the level of tuition and the condition of the equipment remains consistently high over time.
Recognition system
The RYA is responsible for administering the recognition system and ensuring standards of training are maintained. It is not party to the arrangements clients make with a recognised centre.
However, recognition does not cover any associated charter activities and may only relate to some of the courses on offer at a centre. If you are in any doubt, check with us specifically which courses your chosen centre is recognised to offer.
If you are unhappy with a course, and your problems cannot be resolved with the principal of the school, please do not hesitate to contact the RYA using the link above.
